Mini and I survived the Earthquake of 2011

by - August 24, 2011

Ok....first, I catch a bridal bouquet...then Will and Jada split (allegedly)...then an earthquake in New York...?!?!?!?

Mini and I survived the earthquake of 2011!  We were painting in her room when her huge mirror started to sway back and forth...we thought it was a ghost or it was falling off the wall so we ran to grab it...then I looked out into the hall and remember my photo wall?  Well, all those pictures began to bang back and forth on the wall...I WAS SO SCARED!  Mini, was too...I grabbed the phone to call 911 and we had no phone service...HELP!  I told mini to grab her shoes...she asked if she could change her shirt...REALLY?  We ran down 11 flights...meeting neighbors on the way...everyone was scared...Mini and I sat in the car for about 45 minutes while I tried to decide what to do.  It was well over by then...but the mommy in me was already planning our next escape...Since 9-11, NYC has been promoting the idea of having a go bag...a bag that has all your essentials, that you can grab and leave the house quickly in case of emergency...Well, let's just say...I started working on our go bag last night...I gotta get a tent!  That's all I'm saying...strange things are happening...

  1. That is scarey and glad ya'll are safe. I got an emergency kit bookbag from Costco because no matter where we all live, you never know what can happen weather wise. A tent is a good idea too.

  2. I know. They are strange until you get use to them. There was one just this morning on the west coast...after shock. Also, there was a small one last night.

I saw a picture where a man in the East was under a chair. Nope. That is not where you want to be. It's best to get under a doorway. You need the solid foundation above your head.

  4. We felt the earthquake here in Toronto, Canada too. We actually were put under a tornado watch, thankfully nothing became of it except crazy lightning and a ridiculous downpour of rain. Thankfully you guys are alright!

  6. I only remember one earthquake when I lived in SanFrancisco and it was weird how everything shifted a couple feet to one side then right back into place. I probably wasn't awake enough to be scared. Yeah, a 72 hour kit these days is pretty critical. We need to restock ours.
