An Easy Fashion DIY

Okay.

I have another easy, peasie DIY.

One thrifted (yours could be new) maxi skirt.

1.  Turn the skirt inside out

2. Spread it out on the floor

3. Draw a horizontal line across the bottom of the skirt and two vertical lines...just as I have done here

4. The right and left vertical lines represent where your legs will go

5. The horizontal line represents the drop in the pants
You can make the drop higher or lower.
It all depends on how low you want your hammer pants to hang.
They can hang at the knee, ankle or anywhere in between.

6.  Next, stitch along the white line...hand sewing is fine with this project.
I would just suggest you go over your seam twice.

7. Next, (I don't have a photo of this step, sorry) go ahead and cut away all the excess fabric below the chalk line.

I rocked mine the other day...It was freezing.  Where the heck is spring...
It's official, they are cute.  A homeless guy in Manhattan told me so...he called them "genie" pants...so, I'm sure he knows his stuff...LOL>.

...I am now obsessed with finding ugly, printed maxi skirts to turn into hammer pants...they may become my summer statement piece.

On a diy scale from 1 to 10 this project is a 4.  So...go ahead (I know you have an old maxi skirt in your closet) give it a try and let me know how it works out for you.

Mini and Me...

A couple of quick shots of Mini and I out and about in the NYC yesterday...

We had breakfast at Amy's Bread on 9th ave. and 46th street...just 2 blocks from the thrift store...

Check out my new braids...Mini helped me put them in and she did a pretty good job.

I Thrift - New York City

It's spring break here in NYC...

...No school all week...

So Mini and I headed into the Emerald city to do a little shopping...

...and you already know no shopping trip is complete without a trip to the thrift store.

We didn't buy much..a couple pairs of jeans...a pair of brand new JCrew flip flops for Mini and another leather bag...UGH!

I took pics of some of the things I wanted to buy, but have no room for...sigh.

I really, really, really wanted this curio cabinet...It was $349.00 bucks and worth every penny...I imagine it painted a high gloss white or black and filling it with my shoes and handbags in my bedroom...sigh.

The two matching chairs were just $70 for the pair...Can't you just see them re-upholstered in african wax cloth...Anthropologie style.

The brown velvet sofa was huge and just $198.00...sigh.

The smaller beige velvet sofa was just $150.00 and would be perfect in my living room...but, I'm still loving on my white IKEA sofa...we are not breaking up yet.

The burgundy, excuse me, I mean ox blood, mid-century modern? recliner was just $129 bucks...sigh.  again no room.

After thrifting we headed over to Forever 21 in Times Square, every teen girls dream...It's a monster of a store...4 floors of wall to wall girls and loud music...we picked up a couple of things for Mini and a beautiful bracelet for me...will take pics and share with the class later.

In a clutch....

I have not made a clutch in over a year...I'm kinda inspired again after seeing this one.

Another Easy DIY - Black Lamp Shades

Hey guys this is another easy DIY...

Black lamp shades are all the rage...don't take my word for it...

...just check out the inspiration images I've posted here.

Now I love a decor trend just like the next person...

I just don't like to waste money on trends...things that are temporary...know what I mean.

...So, what's a DIY girl to do?

Get out the paint and do it yourself.

Tada...

On a DIY scale from 1 - 10 this is a easy 3...

I used leftover latex paint...nothing special...

It did take a couple of coats...

Now...I just have to decide which thrifted lamps will rock the new shade...

INSPIRATION

I'm gonna do it...

Box braids coming soon...

Thank you...Thank you...Thank you...

I received this email from a reader of my blog and I just had to share it with you guys...
Reading it and feeling such love from someone I've never meet...but have some how managed to touch in such a special way really blows me away.

I am blessed to know that the life and journey I share here on the blog is actually touching people in such a special way.  I could not ask for more.

and people ask why I blog...smile.

As we move into this holy season I thought it was appropriate to share and inspire and uplift.

Thank you!

First, I’d like to thank you for being such an inspiration to me. There are not may days that go by that I don’t check for your blog entry. I discovered your blog about four years ago when I was going through my empty nest syndrome. I was very sad and alone and that is when I stumbled upon your BLOG. It inspired me in so many ways.

Well today I decided I would have a mini pity party, but when I looked at the blog, I remembered following you every day, waiting for an update on Mini’s health and realized how blessed I really am and that no matter what life hit me with I can be strong because I saw the strength in you that I think is only special to mothers.
I just want to say thank you. Keep doing what you do and know that you are touching so many of us in a positive way. I thank God for you and for the private things you have shared!  Please find below 2 You Tube videos I love and I run to when I’m  having a rough day. I hope you enjoy them as I do and be uplifted.

I EAT - Shrimp and Grits

Quick post about breakfast...not just any breakfast.

...an easy shrimp and grits breakfast.

While walking thru BJ's the other day...I picked up a bag of jumbo frozen shrimp...yum.

...I love shrimp...and I love shrimp with grits.

...take me out for breakfast and that's what I want...

...now that doesn't happen often

...so I had to come up with my own recipe to get my fix.

It's really simple.

Serves 2

SHRIMP AND GRITS

6 to 8 jumbo shrimp/cleaned/shelled/tail-off/de-vained
2 cloves of chopped garlic
2 tbls of olive oil
2 tbls of grated parmesan cheese
1 tbls of butter
1 tsp oregano
salt & pepper to taste

Place olive oil into a hot skillet.
add chopped garlic
add oregano
add butter
add shrimp and saute until pink (about 3 min)
add salt and pepper
turn off pan
add grated parmesan cheese
and toss
Pour shrimp and sauce over grits and enjoy!

I Thrift...

A quick peek at one of my latest thrifted finds...

I've purchased a lot of handbags lately...

It's hard to leave them behind when they are this new and so well made...

I fell in love with this little guy...100% leather...

...barely used...and it's an over the body bag

...not too big, not too small...just right.

...and the color...sigh.

One photo was taken at night...and one during the day.
Mini and I recently thrifted a couple of studded belts.

We removed the studs from the belt and are now studding anything and everything...including this bag.

I love how it turned out...

...and just look at this handle.  So cool.

New...

Just added to my ETSY shop.
