To do this weekend...

If you are in or around NYC this weekend...you should check out this brooklyn festival...tons of music, vendors, food and unique handmade items that you won't find anywhere else...bring an empty stomach, a little cash and wear something cool...it gets hot.

Throughout its 41 year history the International African Arts Festival has brought to the Brooklyn community some of the most powerful artists in the African world. A few of the artists performing at the Festival have included Babatunde Olatunde Olatunji and his African Dancers and Drummers, Marie Brooks Pan Caribbean Dancers, Hugh Masakela, The Fugees (Lauryn Hill, Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean), Blue Magic, Pharoah Saunders, Gil Scott Heron, The Mighty Sparrow, Fela Anikaputi, India Arie, KRS-One, Hezekiah Walker, Imani, Shadow, Morgan Heritage, Black Stalin, Tanya Maria, Sun Ra, The Last Poets, Martha Redbone, Dinizulu African Dancers and Drummers, plus many, many more who have grown out of these traditional arts to achieve national and international acclaim.

Sneak Peak...

...hey, just a sneak at what I've been up to...

I've made drapes from drop cloths...more on that later

I picked up this AMAZING rug while thrifting...funny story...more on that later.

...My Ikea Ektrop sofa out the box...

...So easy to put together even a Mini can do it.

 I think she likes it...

I love it!  Now, I want another one...
 Mini hates this pic...say "cheese"...lol.
Okay, I've gotta get back to work now...

I forgot to share this with you guys...

I'm really good at showing when I start projects...and really bad at showing the finished product...So here you go...this is the prom dress I made for my niece...

It went through a couple of tweaks and peaks...she was really happy with how it turned out...

How I'd love to live today...

...in a bright happy bedroom.

...chillin in a linen maxi skirt.

...stay tuned as I recreate this vignette...love.

sigh...I want taller ceilings.

...love the patterns and colors in this space.

...OMG...I picked up a very similar leather ottoman for pennies in the thrift store...It looks so good with this bright white sofa...Can't wait to see how my ottoman looks with my new white sofa...stay tuned.

I'll take it...

...reminds me of college.

Another easy DIY...

...just one of the things distracting me as I put my place back together...
ENTRY TABLES
Target sells a version of this table for $53.00...cut it in half and fasten it to the wall...done and done.

sometimes the universe laughs at your plans...

...What a week...

 ...new un-unvarnished floors

photo take on the highline, nyc
...we had to find somewhere to stay while I'll floors dried...
...ended up in Manhattan...and the weather became hotter than hell...

...on a good note...we ate the most amazing red velvet whoopie pies here...
...while out of our home...Mini's grandmother died...services were attended...our home is still a wreck...and you all already know I don't function well when my home is in total chaos...but, I put my big girl panties on and did what was needed...sigh.
...after all of that, finally beautiful new floors...sigh.
This was supposed to be easy...I had it all planned.

It's going down today...finally.

...Yep.  My floors are finally going down today.

 Yes...it's a mess.

...but, look how pretty the new floors are...
