Have you seen the price of lampshades lately...
Even the ugly ones will run you at least $16.00 bucks.
I don't know about you...but, I don't pay for ugly...
So, when I needed a little shade for my bedroom lamp I decided to go the DIY route.
It was easy...bought an small white shade for just $3.99
...used a pencil to draw a triangle pattern onto the shade
...poured some old paint into a disposable cup
...and got to painting...
...quick light strokes over the lines
and I was done...
...$3.99 and a little creativity. You can do it too.
The other day while re-arranging the things on my living room wall...
I remembered I had this mirror in the closet...
Oh, perfect. Or so I thought...
Just one problem...
It was wired to hang horizontally and I wanted to hang it vertically....sigh.
My first thought was to go through my tool box to find extra hooks and wire to re-orientate the hanging direction...huh?
...then it hit me
Why not just re-use the hooks that are already on the back of the mirror?
...So I got out my trusty screwdriver and removed the hooks and placed them where I wanted them.
Easy peasie...
I thought this info could be useful to you guys...
wired to hang horizontally...I needed to hang it vertically
So, I removed two screws...real easy
...you can see the old holes in this photo...and it's done...
viola...got what I needed.
I wanted to share the video that inspired me to make-over that one wall in my home.
This is a video about an Etsy seller named Xenobia Bailey...a creative visionary.
...Who believes all artist must exercise their creative muscles.
So...that's what I did yesterday.
Handmade Portraits: Xenobia Bailey from Etsy on Vimeo.
So, stuck in the house again yesterday...
wanted to stretch my decorating muscles...after watching a really inspiring Etsy video...
I'll post it later for your viewing pleasure...
but, back to what had happened...
I removed all the accessories from one of my living room walls...
Wasn't really in the mood to destroy the entire room...
BEFORE
AFTER's
switched up the space without leaving the house to buy a thing....luv that...
Almost everything you see in the room was thrifted...except the couch (ikea)...the art (homegoods)...the mask (Mexico)...the orange lantern (ikea)...the plant (homedepot...shelving (ikea)
The orange blanket is one of my favorite thrifted finds...It's a wool blend...maybe cashmere...it's that soft...I love the geometric pattern...very mid century mod.
I was inspired by the room in yesterday's post...
Decorating muscles, stretched.
Decorating muscles, stretched.
Of course you have.
I have been avoiding joining...
I really didn't need a another social networking site taking up my time...
and then I hung out over there this weekend...
and I'm hooked.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that the internet is the Devil.
It just sucks you in.
You go online for one thing and 2 hours later realize you have just been online for 2 hours and you didn't even accomplish what you originally set out to do...lol.
Pinterest is definitely one of those sites.
Check it out for yourself...if you have 2 hours to spare.

how i'd like to live today.
It's still freezing in the NYC.
I'm still inside.
The weather and my car troubles are actually helping me to get a lot of stuff done.
I've been procrastinating.
But, today...I took out my new camera and finally took some photos...
...of stuff I'll be adding to my Etsy site this weekend.
So, if your interested in purchasing anything in this post...
Stay tuned and check out my Etsy site over the weekend.
Have a good one...and stay warm.

I am obsessed with images.
This one makes me smile.
Solange and her son in their Brooklyn brownstone.
This is her bedroom. Luv. Boho...classic. Normal.
The image is old and all over the Internet...Idc.
Perfect for a cold, cloudy Friday afternoon.

Yep...I baked chocolate chip cookies and added a hunk of vanilla ice just for good measure...told you guys I'm bored...
But, it was so goooood.
It's Trader Joe's chocolate chip cookie recipe....you can google it to find the recipe....

You will wish you had a decorator as a friend after watching this room make-over.
We just see things differently.
If I were invited over to your house, trust that I will be mentally moving your furniture around as we talk about our kids...I can't help it...Know that I do it out of love and passion.

So...Mini returned to school today after being home for a week with the flu...UGH!
...I have been trying for a week, not to catch the flu...sigh.
So far, so good.
My car is not running.
It has been down for over a week...
$400 bucks will get the hooptie back on the road...
That's a big chunk of my thrifting budget...
I have been in the house for over a week...
It's freezing outside...
I'm about to go off...
Even baking chocolate chip cookies is not helping...
...My four walls are closing in on me...
I have no energy to move, change or paint anything...
I barely have enough energy to dream about how I'd love to live today...
I thought it would be cool to share with you guys a couple of photos I took in D.C. over the New Year.
Mini and I went to visit her aunt and we had a great time. We headed over to the new Martin Luther
King Memorial Park...and took a couple of photos...I'm still trying to figure out my new camera and it
was at night...so the pics are a little shaking...but, still worth sharing on this special day.
I love this photo...
...out of the despair of our past...they are the hope of our future.
Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.
So, it's cold outside...no reason not to look cute...
or at least try...
I love all these looks...
My next thrift store purchase will be a faux fur coat...I need one.
The weather here in NYC has been a little unpredictable lately...so layers are the best way to go...
there is a trend here...tights/leggings and boots...
How do you guys feel about shorts and tights in the winter? I think the younger women can get a way with this trendy style...
...yes, I need a faux fur jacket.
...again, layers.
I hope I've inspired you to go out and have a cute weekend...
