The Journey Continues...

by - September 08, 2010

Every girl should have a friend/cheerleader...the one person who knows your life story and can tell it back to you better than you even remember...just when you need to get back on track...that's what I have...they remind you of who you are and how far you've come...all the obstacles you've overcome and all the victories you've won...and all the failures you've moved on from...

Well, after speaking to my biggest cheerleader, I was remind of a few things...

1. I'm the girl who, left home at 17, in NYC...and never looked back.

2. I'm the girl who, put herself through college, at night, while working full-time and paying her own rent.

3. I'm the women who, graduated from college, 8 months pregnant and alone.

4. I'm the women who, after learning that her baby would be born with a chronic, debilitating illness, did not abort...

5. I'm the women who, after learning that her daughter had two strokes, and would need to be hospitalized at least twice a month for the treatment that COULD save her life, quit her job to care for her.

6. I'm the women who, fought her father and won enough child support to make that happen.

7. I'm the women who, after learning that her daughter was dyslexic and the department of education wanted her to repeat second grade for the 3rd time...Sued the board and won tuition to a private school for students with learning disabilities.

8. I'm the women who, proudly watches her daughter, (sometimes, I'm so proud I can hardly watch) work hard at everything she does...when it is not easy. Reading, writing, winning awards, performing, just blossoming everyday...She is amazing and I don't think I'm bragging when I say, "it is because of me..."

10. I'm the women who, in the mist of all of this, still remembers who she is...a talented, creative, loving women still full of dreams for her own future...

9. ...and now, I am the mom who, will watch her daughter go through a dangerous bone marrow treatment...sigh...chemo, lose her hair, be isolated from her friends and family for 6+ weeks...miss half the school year...her senior year...the year when she wanted to star in the school play and run for class president...because that's the kinds of girl I have raised...in her life she sees no obstacles...

For me, it's been overwhelming, but I'm still here and my friend reminded me to remember where I come from and how far...and they suggested Mini and I should have a theme song...something that let's the universe know who we are...something we can sing in transplant and know that everything will be o.k...they choose this one...and Mini and I agree...So, for anyone...doctors, nurses, lawyers, chemo, bone marrow, school, daddies, etc...who thinks about getting in our way, we say, "You Must Not Know 'Bout Me".

    Psalm 20:1-5
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;May He send you help from the sanctuary,And strengthen you out of Zion; May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice.May He grant you according to your heart's desire, And fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.

  19. wow. really, i realy don't have words to express how this makes me feel. you're beautiful!

and now that i think about it, i do recall reading here once before that mini had had strokes. in my latest blog post i talk about an episode last week where i thought i was having one. while i was having the feelings, i was wondering could a person my age really have a stroke. i later learned that YES. re-reading that mini had them so young makes it even more real.

    what a warrior!!!
