Keep Calm and Carry On...
...this is where the poster I ordered a few posts back from etsy landed...over the mantel with a couple of old family photos, my money frog, on the right is a statue that I purchased at the flea market for $8.00 bucks...the one on the left is from my Aunt...took me a couple of years of nagging to get that one...I heart it...
quick and easy DIY decorating tip...
...makes me want to paint this weekend...have not painted since new years...what a cool and inexpensive way to add a little interest to a bland room...collect glass in a single color...the trick here is to get different shapes and sizes and display them in one area of your room, not all over the room...try it.

Liya Kebede (left)...She'll be playing Somalian model Waris Dirie (right), who was the face of Chanel Allure perfume and appeared in the Pirelli calendar twice.The movie, Desert Flower, is based on Waris' autobiography of the same name which chronicles her childhood in the Somali desert, her entrance into modeling, and her role as a United Nations spokeswoman against circumcision.
Waris most recently made headlines for a brief disappearance in March 2007. Another fun fact: She's Iman's cousin.

...and a really disgusting pair of slippers, they started out a clean slate grey, but after a couple of days, they look like s#^t...note to self, only buy black slippers.

Today's Musical Selection..
...I came across this video and had to share...every singer on the scene today our who would like to be on the scene one day should be required to study Diana Ross...her style, flawless...stage presence, amazing...vocals, impeccable...orchestra playing live...come on...Makes American Idol look like a junior high talent show...Mini performed last weekend in a talent show at NYU...Mini has no fear of being on stage, but she could definitely learn a lot about stage presence from the Boss, Miss Ross...she will be studying this video tonight.
I've heard it said that everyone should have a theme song, something you can think about to refocus yourself, well, this is my new theme song...I will hum in my head when I need to focus...

...sister is coming over for the weekend with the kids and I guess it would be nice if there were some food in the house...lol...
5. Pick up money order for car insurance payment before they cancel...

...last night
...hung-out with my BFF last night...it's been a while, she recently had a baby...it was sooooo nice to be baby and kid free for a little grown-up meal and conversation...Martinis, entrees, and desert (see the food porn below)...there was a live jazz band...and I was back home on the express bus by 11:30...what's better than that...no looking for a parking space, no tickets and the weather was perfect for window shopping...When you get a chance check out ZARA...I hear the clothes are amazing this season...My i-report on the recession...there was no sign of recession at this restaurant last night...it was packed...we waited over an hour for a seat...didn't mind...the martini helped...

Mini's Big Day...
Mini flying her kite in the park - Summer 08'
...Mini had a blast yesterday...she toured the school, sat in on a class (where the teacher used Lil Wayne as an example in a lesson...you know Mini loved that)...she couldn't stop talking about the teacher and how animated he was...most of the teachers are men...and Mini didn't see to mind at all...she said, "she could see herself at her locker, putting on lip gloss, running up the stairs trying to make it to class in 5 minutes"...she wanted to start yesterday...lol. This school is bigger than Mini's current school which has only 24 students in the entire school...this new school has 230 kids, runs from 6th grade thru 12th grade...Now we must be patient and wait...but, I think her chances are good after all you guys sent your wonderful energy our way...heart.

How clever...tin can turned into a clock...the clock mechanism is sold in any craft store...drill a hole in the tin can and pop the clock in...easy...lots of style with little effort.

Tomorrow is Mini's big day...
...Mini is going on an interview at one of the top LD schools in NYC tomorrow...she is so excited...we have been practicing her interview questions...she has her outfit ready and I will tackle the hair after school today...wish us luck. She can't wait to leave elementary school all her friends are already in jr. high and now it's her turn...I know she'll be her charming, amazing self...

Look what I just bought...
I sold an item in my Etsy Shop today and decided to celebrate and cheer myself up with a purchase...Yeah! ...I've wanted this poster for so long...Can't wait to get it...
Today's Musical Selection...AYO - Sometimes
...sigh, what a week...not sure what's going on, but lots of little things (well not so little, my car, my stove, the lock on my front door) have been breaking this week...and I've had to call on someone I don't really like to call on because of past disappointments...to my surprise, this time they came through every time I needed them...I'm confused...I mean, I'm glad that I can still call on them...but I hate that I still have to call on them...and why are they so helpful? I know, I should just accept the help and move on...don't think about it...I'm trying to do that, but it's not easy...then I heard this AYO and it's sums up how I'm feeling today...don't know about tomorrow...but today I'm feeling like this song...sigh.

1. I listen to NPR all day...even in the car...it drives Mini crazy.
2. I'm looking forward to joining the Peace Corps when Mini is grown.
3. I don't like cats...when I see them on someone's blog it makes my skin crawl.
4. I once auditioned for a t.v. design show...I didn't get the part and the show was short lived.
5. I heart going to the movies alone...don't really like company at the movies unless were makin' out...I can count on two hands the number of movies Mini and I have been to together...I really can't take the kiddie movies...
6. Mini has the Jazmine Sullivan song, "Lions and Tigers and Bears" on repeat in her room and it's driving me crazy...Man, I can't believe I almost missed out on this life experience...Just being a Mom>

...So, yesterday Mini's favorite t.v. show, America's Next Top Model - Season 12 began...Mini can't get enough of this show...I on the other hand, am over it...but it's a good time to bond with Mini and teach life lessons...This is our favorite contestant so far...Animat from N.J.
