On most days my daughter Mini is an average all-american 12 year old girl...Except when she goes to the hospital for a treatment every three weeks...That's when we are reminded that she is not just an average american girl. Mini suffers from a chronic-life threatning illness...On a day to day basis we handle it pretty well, but when I reach the clinic on the third week of every month I am reminded of her mortality and how everything that I do outside of the hospital is done to keep her alive...It's a tight rope to walk...I want her to experience all the good things that a 12 year old girl should experience without putting her health in jeporady...Mini on the other hand see's the clinic as a place where her friends gather to hang out. She loves all the special treatment the doctors and nurses shower her with when she's there. Her next appointment would have fallen on her birthday. I rescheduled it to another day thinking who wants to be in the hospital on their birthday? Mini had a different take on it...she thought it would be cool because all the doctors and nurses would give her presents...I heart that kid...Below are some images from our day in the clinic...
Mini getting her line hooked up...
Parents dealing with the stress...
Kids hanging out coloring...
The clinic got a new Wii game and the kids were so excited. They played that game for 4 hours straight...Anything to take their minds off their treamtents.

In A Perfect World
In a perfect world, I'd have this 9' x 13', pre-fab room delivered to my backyard and my wonderful, sexy, husband would put it together in one weekend...and I would turn it into my office...
Kithaus K3 are the architects...They will deliver all the pieces needed to build this little beauty to your home for as little at $45,000.00 dollars...Well worth it. Much better than your typical garage...If your really handy, I think you can probably build one yourself...I can just see myself blogging from the room right now....

Clever...
Sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up to get through your work day...Too cute...available online at http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&navAction=jump&id=14901607&search=true&isProduct=true&parentid=SEARCH+RESULTS&color=30
Just $20.00

BET Awards 08
O.k...I could go on for hours about what's wrong with BET and how I (yeah, me) can fix it. BET does one thing right each year and that is their awards show...It's the BEST! Did you see Maxwell last night? Well, check him out again...the man is Sexy with a capital S....dang...makes a girl feel good...

In A Perfect World
In a perfect world, I would wear this dress on my dinner date this weekend...and the hair, I heart it...too bad I cut all my hair off...

Would you dare?
I think it's beautiful...but it does speak volumes about the parents and their expectations for their child...The kid who lives in this room will not grow up wearing pink gingham dresses, or overalls with trucks printed on them....What do you think?
a walk around the neighborhood

Mini and I try to take a walk around our neighborhood at least twice a week after dinner...It's a two mile walk and it burns about 268 calories....
From my garden to my table

I grow basil and lettuce on my terrace....
Pretty....
...used the basil to add a little more flavor to my turkey meatballs
I was really hungry so, we had meatball heros with mozzarella cheese on a roll...Yum.
Then I felt guilty about all the fat and decided we needed a little salad with that...Good Stuff...

I.K.E.A.
Images from yesterday's exhausting trip to the Red Hook, Ikea opening....

I really liked this kitchen display and so did Mini...
There was music, clowns, crowds and giveaways...
Is there any other furniture store where a little girl can dream about being a princess, living in a princess room and mommy can actually afford it...? $7.99 for this canopy...it comes in blue, orange, pink, and green...Perfect...this little girl thought so...
Inspiration
I just had to post...This pictures truly embodies my design philosophy...Use unexpected things whenever you can...A framed kimono robe in the bathroom...a desk with a lamp...Luv it...

More Bang for your Buck
I heart this floor, the lighting (easy and cheap), the woven plates on the wall, perfect...An example of more bang for your buck decorating...
IKEA
Maybe I can find a nice little white shelf, white chair and a cute little mirror like this one for my new room today in IKEA...So sweet...
Look of the Day
The new IKEA in Red Hook, Brooklyn is opening today...It's on the water with a deck for lounging, free water taxi's every 40 minutes to and from Manhattan and I'm going...thinking about wearing something like this...I know it looks a little crazy, sometimes a lady just feels a little crazy...

Inspiration
I was surfing the web looking for inspiration for redoing my bedroom...I actually purchased the paint...Yeah! Now if I could just get it on the wall...and surprise, it's not white as I have been blogging about since March, I actually purchased a color called "Soar" by Behr...It's almost white with a hint of sky blue...Stay tuned...

The Look For Today
Mini-me is having her hip-hop dance recital tonight...Sunday I will attend my all time favorite house tour in Mount Morris Park, Harlem...They give you the opportunity to walk-thru 10 brownstones, some re-designed to the hilt and some restored to their original glory...It will be 90 degrees this weekend in NYC, so I'll be running around in a little something like this...Enjoy your weekend.
A Girl Can Dream...
Since were on the topic of refrigerators, check out the fridge of fashion designer, J. Morgan Puett. Last weeks Home section in the New York Times ran a cover story about her and her radical homesteader lifestyle. She lives in rural, Beach Lake, PA with her 8 year old son....Her story is so interesting and a must read...It is one of my dreams to do exactly what she is doing...basically, living cratively, off the grid...Maybe when mini-me is grown and on her own...A girl can dream...
I have linked to her story here... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/29/garden/29puett.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=J.+Morgan+Puett&st=nyt&oref=slogin
The following are pictures of her home...even her refrigerator is decorated...I luv it...
Her kitchen, fab....
Her bedroom, dreamy...
Inside My Fridge
I have been tagged by Nina at http://www.neosewmama.typepad.com/. She has asked that I take pictures of my pantry and refrigerator...Here it is Nina...
Pretty simple...ice tea, watermelon, goji juice, garlic, left-overs, sunny-D for my daughter to take with her medicine every morning, it's the juice that works for her and white wine on tap for mommy...
Fruits and veggies, tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, apples and feta cheese...boring.
Bottom drawer, adult beverages for my adult friends...mostly males...my girlfriends don't drink beer and neither do I...Every now and then when dinner turns into breakfast...wink...I like to make mimosa's with breakfast...That's why the Andre's there....
Pantry is a bit of a mess...it holds the staples...Mini-me loves ramane noodles...It's a treat when she is allowed to eat them...I pretty much cook 3 meals a day...breakfast, lunch and dinner...Compared to the typical American family, we rarely eat out...I Love to Cook.
