I heart it...

Luv it! This is my inspiration for mini-me's next bedroom makeover. Mini-me goes to camp for a week each summer...usually around her birthday...for the past couple of years I have redecorated her room for her birthday with the big reveal when she gets home from camp...(I know, we watch too much HGTV)...Well, mini-me has informed me that she wants this to continue for the rest of her life...Even when she moves out...I must come to her home and re-do her bedroom for her birthday...I luv it!
Inspiration

You gotta luv Brooklyn...there are so many diverse, independant stores in Fort Greene...but, alot of people are being pushed out by rising rents...It's putting some artist on the street to sell there wares...I purchased this card from an artist on the street. I love the drawing of the woman and the sentiment just spoke to me, "today I begin my life anew"...It is my theme for each and everyday...I purchased the handmade, country frame from a little boutique...I like the raw, recycled look of it...and the colors are calming...

Love, Love, Love
Can you feel the love? I heart this family photo...Not too stiff or formal...Their personalities show through perfectly...It's perfect.
Clever...clever...clever...
Here's a very east DIY project...
Purchase two standard white pillow cases...Get iron-on letters from a craft store like Micheal's and iron the words YES and NO onto the cases...or how about HIS and HERS or HERS and HERS for your single girlfriends...too cute.
I think it would make a great gift for a wedding shower or house warming...
BEFORE...
I can't have free time on my hands...when I do , this is what happens to my home...
After...
This fireplace mantel was in my bedroom...I move it from room to room every now and then...and like I said, I was bored yesterday and it made it's move into the living room. I like it...it actually gave the room more of an eclectic feel...as opposed to the picture on the top where my livingroom looks a little stuffy and staged...
Last Night...
Oh, it was nice...I light the candles put mini-me to bed and we just chilled...
I purchased this mantel for $50.00 bucks in my neighborhood junk shop...I was driving past, saw it outside, stopped the car and screamed out the window, "how much"?. The old man said, "Well, I'm leaving soon, give me $50.00"...I couldn't get it out of my wallet fast enough...He tied it on top of the car...I drove it to my mom's house..(it was closer than mine and I needed help to get it into my apartment building) my brother took on look at it and started humming the theme song from Sandford and Son...UGH! You gotta have vision...I love it...I'm glad it's back in the livingroom . It was getting no play in the bedroom...

Today's Musical Inspiration....
This song got me through some tough times...I better keep it on the blog just in case I need it again...Enjoy.
I heart wallpaper
I know don't gasp...it's alright...it won't bring down your property value...I love the mix of glamorous wallpaper with the rustic floors...
In A Perfect World...
O.k., I've already shown you what the bedroom of my (in a perfect world) date would look like...Now, this is a photo of the den in his home...Oh...and yes, he still is not gay or on the down-low...What can I say, I'm into the creative types...lol.
In a perfect world people.....

Danity Kane, Damage
I hope you had a good Memorial Day Weekend...I spent the weekend with family...bar-b-que's and celebrating the completion of a Masters Degree Program...Yeah! The girls at the party could not get enough of this song, they played it over and over while drinking martinis and doing the electric slide and yes, there was a Soul Train Line...and now I can't get the song out of my head...If you can get by the techo beat and Sean Puffy Combs budding in on the end...the lyrics are actually cool...Don't listen too many times or you won't be able to get it out of your head...Dang you Puffy...
Bedroom Inspiration
I have been talking about painting my bedroom white for months now. I found this image online and it mirrors my bedroom....I already have the chocolate wall...I wanted to change it...it's been chocolate since I moved in...but, now I think I'll keep it and just paint the rest of the room white...right now it's green...I have a window in the same position as this room and I'm thinking about making drapes and placing them wall to wall....giving the illusion of a bigger window...I just got a little baby, tini-tiny flat screen for my room too and I have no dresser...I have two closets...no dresser needed...I like it...it's do-able...Not as funky as I'd like it to be, but it's a start...

I Heart...
I came across this store while surfing online...and man, I'm in love...when I close my eyes real tight...I see my store...and it looks just like this...If you like what you see check out the website. You won't be disappointed... www.jroaman.com
The store is located in East Hampton, a 1 hour and 54 minute drive...Hum, just may be worth the gas...
In a Perfect World
In a perfect world, Mini-me would wear an outfit like this everyday...and love it. But, it's not a perfect world and Mini-me is a typical American girl...jeans and t-shirts, all-day, everyday...

Design Dilema

I studied fashion design at F.I.T. (and yes, a fashion design class is exactly like being on Project Runway) this dress turned out to be a perfect example of what one of my professors (not Tim Gunn) would tell the students..."Don't try to put all your fabulous ideas into every project." I loved this fabric and thought it would make a wonderful simple, long summer tunic type dress...then I got carried away with the details and now I'm not sure what it looks like...I'm not happy with it and I miss my pretty fabric...I tried to jazz it up in the bottom photo with the beads...but, it's not working for me....Just sharing...

A Project for Mini-Me
Mini-me has been waiting for me to make her something...she decided it should be a messenger bag...
I used the denim I had laying around...and scraps from old projects for the decorative trim...

She has a lot of gadgets...and may be getting a laptop to help her with reading...So, I decided to put plenty of deep pockets inside the bag..
This is how it turned out. Pretty cute, huh? Well, after much consideration I decided it was not girly enough for my girl...So I guggied (is that a word?) it up...

I added these cute little fabric flowers and buttons...
Mini-me loved it! She was so excited...all her gadgets fit perfectly...totally organized...Not an easy feet for an 11 year old...
How does our garden grow?
Two weeks ago I spent the morning in at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens...I bought annuals and perinials for my flower boxes on the terrace...Mini-me was excited to help out...the weather was perfect...Now, almost everyday since planting the weather has been rainy and cold...down to 42 degrees on some nights...UGH! I'm looking forward to this weekend...finally temperatures in the 70's...and it's Fleet Week here in NYC...that's always an exciting, fun time...

Home Office Inspiration
Phyllis over at www.fortyisthenew20.blogspot.com asked for inspirational office ideas...If you need specific inspirational photos...just let me know...
When you said you do most of your work at the kitchen table...I thought this would be a pretty easy transition to a dedicated space for creativity...A cute table and chair, just big enough for a lap top and flowers...and it doesn't take up much space...
Creating this space would take much more effort...built-ins, organization and a dedicated space.
I threw this one in for inspiration...maybe you have a basement space that is being under used...Just think what it could be...
If your a magazine nut like me...why not use them as legs for your desk...head over to Home Depot pick-up a hollow core door and sit it on top of your magazines...viola!
This image is cozy...a bright corner, simple desk and a basket for all those re-writes...
Current Project: Kitchen
Project: Kitchen Remodel, NYC
Status: Gut-rehab...
We purchased the IKEA, Akurum Cabinets for the room...They should go in this week...cross your fingers.

Inspiration
The images are from www.apartmenttherapy.com
I love Ikea. But, I don't think it's a good idea to decorate your home with head to toe Ikea...A little Ikea, sprinkled here and there can go a long way to showing off who you are and how you live without breaking the bank... This home is a perfect example of that idea...
Wonderful design space...and I'm sure it didn't break the bank. It functions with style.
We all know how cheap the green chairs are in IKEA...but, when paired with other more interesting items, they look great.
I'm working on a kitchen right now (pictures will post later) but, this is a good example of a kitchen done well without all the drama and effort of a total redo...I love it.
My Little Project
I have been putting off making a slipcover for my old chair...I love the chair but, it is a bit worn...It has been in everyroom in my home...including the kitchen and the terrace...It took 3 hours, but, I'm happy with the way it turned out...

Luther Vandross, Don't You Know That
Yeah! This is one of my favorite Luther Vandross songs...I used to sing it all around the house when I was a little girl...I had no idea what I was singing about...I see now that I had good taste...lol. Enjoy.
One Day in "A Perfect World"
Here's a little story of what a perfect, child free, friday in my world would look like....
In a perfect world...I would wake up in a bedroom that looks like this...
I would take a long, hot shower and lounge around the house like this...
Just blogging, designing and having client meetings, all the while passing thru this beautiful hall...isn't it beautiful...?
Luther would be on the IPOD all day...just to put me in the right mood for the evening plans....
SEE VIDEO ON TOP...(please excuse me,,,I was having technical difficulties).
And of course I would have a hot date coming over to hang out. Why not hang out at my place? Is there any place hotter....He would bring the dinner (maybe take out mexican) and drinks (definately, tequila for margarita's)...and I'd throw on this little funky, yet casual dress....
...The evening would end exactly where it began...In a perfect world...
Make a plan, do somethings, have a great weekend....

From Mini-Me for Mother's Day
I don't think I need to tell you how it made me feel to receive this from mini-me this Mother's day...I'm sure you can feel the love...
Mother's Day Present
I think it's a very rare person who cares enough to really think about the person they're buying a gift for...You know, caring enough to give something that says, "I know who you are and I appreciate who you are. I received this mug from just such a person...Thank you, thank you, thank you...Not just for the mug, but for caring enough to think of me in such an imaginative way...
THE MUG READS, "Proud to be a 100% qualified, imaginative, deadline meeting, all natural, creative Designer."
It's just perfect.
A WORK IN PROGRESS
Not sure why, but, I'm inspired by halters...I heart halters...I know, I need to make something with a back for the modest ladies...I will.

Projects
I'm back, my computer and camera were down...Ugh! But, I kept busy...I made six bags (3) of each...nice, huh? They will be up for sale around $30 on my Etsy shop when I get a chance...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I don't need gifts, cards or jewlery on Mother's Day...I don't need breakfast in bed, lunch or dinner out...Nope. For me, MOTHER'S DAY is a chance for me to thank the Universe for giving me this opportunity to mother the brilliant soul it's sent to me...My daughter is 11 and it has not been easy as most of you know...but, I would not give up one second of the time I have been blessed to spend with her...She is my joy and my only wish is that one day she will be able to say the same thing about her children...
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.
Happy Mothers Day - Lenny Kravitz Thinking of You
I have tears as I post this video...It is so beautiful and passionate...You know I love sexy music with a message and this song and video does not disappoint. If your a mother have a mother, or just know a mother, be inspired...Happy Mothers Day!
Rants and Raves from the Fort Greene Home Tour
Vouyers like myself started lining up at 11:00 a.m. last Sunday in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Why? Because we like to peek at strangers homes...It is my favorite spring time ritual...I do it all over New York City and Fort Greene did not disappoint...These are images from the day
Do you have a million dollars just laying around? If so, you can purchase a tiny two bedroom apartment with the kitchen placed along the livingroom wall (sorry, no pictures were allowed)...A master bedroom too small for a dresser and your kids clothes will not fit in the room they call the second bedroom...Not to mention...it's downtown Brooklyn people! This is insanse....

The home in brooklyn are so diverse...just like the people...This home would look totally normal in middle America...but, it's in Brooklyn...Inside, totally modern and updated...just beautiful. I'll take it...then you could come over and I'd make margaritas we'd sit on the porch and talk about everyone walking by...perfect.
Oh, this doggie was so bored with all the interlopers in his neighborhood...I wish I could have a doggie like him or her in my apartment...but, no pets allowed.
This little cutie is starting a little early on the pampering train...
This image of Tina Turner was in the window of a funky little boutique in Fort Green called, http://addyandferro.com/ ...The brownstone across the street was caught in the reflection...cool...can't wait to print it at Walmart...I hope it comes out well...I want to frame it and hang it in the apartment...somewhere...where, I don't know...

Images from my favorite house on the tour (they allowed me to take pictures)...I just love the wallpaper. It was on the ceiling...special. I like when you walk into a home and you can instantly tell who lives there and if your lucky, what their passions are...This is the home of a very passionate old man...Just beautiful...
I ended the day with a walk through beautiful Fort Greene Park. I was told that just 15 years ago this was a drug haven...Well, well, well, gentrification at work... It was a perfect day.

I used to make something similar back in the day...Maybe I'll start again...I'm inspired...so pretty.
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE...

Is it all over my face? I'm in love dancing...
Kimora and her man, Djimon Hounsou are so obviously in love...
I'm doing more visualization meditation people...

Election Watching with Mini-Me

Last night mini-me and I are watching the election results with Tim Russett on MSNBC when Tim says, (yeah, I call him Tim cause we tight like that)"Barack can't win because of XYZ". Mini-me sits up and says, "What? He can't win because his zipper is open". I laughed so hard I feel off the couch. Kids, you gotta love em'.
Keep it simple people...
Then mini-me suggested something I think is profound, yet simple... "Why don't they both go on that show, The Moment of Truth...then everyone will know who's telling the truth..."
Keep it simple people.
Since Mini-me was in such a political state of mind I decided to ask her, what question she would ask Obama and Clinton if she had the chance...and here are her questions...
For Clinton, do you really want to be president or does you husband want to be president again? Hum...
For Obama, will you stop the war and make better schools for dyslexic children? Hum...
Even at the ripe old age of 11 she knows to vote her interest...I am so proud...Happy Mothers Day to me...

I went to Target
Well, Yoli at http://prettyparrot.blogspot.com/ and PBW over at http://fortyisthenew20.blogspot.com/ I took your advice and headed over to Target today...good times...
I purchased this umbrealla, and fren...aren't they nice...They inspired me to clean the terrace...well, a small section of it anyway...next, flowers...Yeah!
I even broke down and purchased on of those $2.97 balls. My daughter is always trying to get me to buy one...and today I did...and she wasn't even there...How did that happen? It looked so lonley...like it needed a friend to play with...This means I will have to take it and mini-me to the park to break it in...probably daily...wish me luck...
More Design Inspiration
I didn't get any sewing done this weekend...spent the weekend running around with my car on Saturday and Sunday was spent out in Fort Greene, Brooklyn on a house tour...will post pictures later...
I'm inspired to get sewing today or clean the terrace...hum? Or go to Target...

Today's Musical Selection...Mariah Carey, Vision of Love
I would like to beleive in love and all that that entails...I hear Miss Mariah found her a nice young man that she could train...
I can only guess she is singing this song today and feeling lovely... I'm not gonna hate...it would be too easy. I'll just say keep hope alive and work on my visualization meditation some more...
I've been around long enough to know that happiness doesn't come like we expect, in a nice big box with a beautiful pink bow...No, I it comes in little moments, that we have to cherish and enjoy...I hope that is what Mariah is doing today...Can you ever expect forever? Just enjoy all of today and maybe, just maybe, all your today's strung together will go on forever.
Love is where you find it.
This was my song back in the day....Enjoy!
Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey, married at her home in the Bahamas, yesterday, May 1, 2008. She is 38 ? he is 28?...I'm just saying.
In a Perfect World
In a perfect world, I would go on a date, have a great time, go back to his place and BAM, his bedroom would look like this! (psst, and he would not be gay or on the down-low) lol.lol.lol.
In a perfect world...
